Democratic Houses run budget deficits on average FIVE TIMES higher than Republican Houses (4.7% versus .9% of GDP).
The message: if you want real fiscal restraint, put the House in Republican hands. The data for Republican presidents is another matter, but then the President only proposes a budget, Congress enacts it (as Murtha likes to point out)

Thanks for the article ...it helps me understand and explain to my liberal friends why President Bush is not entirely to blame - they would have complained then too if he had vetoed anything.

Liberal congress members voted for higher spending but are not responsible for the resulting deficits, only Reagan and both Bush. Just like they voted in droves for the war but were not responsible for any military deaths, only W. They WILL be responsible for the door hitting them on the way out in November.
